Description
This year's SPOOKY WALK will be Saturday October 26th 2024, from 6:30-8:00pm in Menotomy Rocks Park. The rain date is Sunday the 27th at the same time.
The Spooky Walk is an annual community event held at Menotomy Rocks Park (Jason St. entrance) the Saturday before Halloween.
The event consists of a walk clockwise around the pond and ending at the front field, which is lit only by luminaria, paper lanterns, pumpkins, and flashlights. Along the walk are a number of "spooky stations" each with a different theme.
It doesn’t matter when during the 1½ hours you come by. Plan to spend about 30-45 minutes there.
It is a great event to get in the Halloween spirit and give your costumes a dry run.
WHAT AGE IS APPROPRIATE/HOW SCARY IS IT?
The event is intended for kids and is age appropriate for elementary school age and up. Typically the stations nearest the entrance are less scary (e.g., a fashion show, a dance performance) and suitable for Pre-K+. If your child is sensitive to spooky things you should take that into consideration.
WHAT SHOULD WE BRING/WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
Most kids and many adults show up in costumes which adds to the fun. It’s recommended to bring a flashlight, headlamp, glow sticks or some type of light since the park is very dark. Please don’t bring candy or anything that would create trash since it needs to be clean at the conclusion of the event. Please don’t bring your dog.
HOW CROWDED DOES IT GET?
The event often attracts over 1,000 visitors, so plan to hold hands with young children and stay close to / in contact with older kids. It’s very difficult to find one another if separated given that the park is very dark. We recommend having a plan of where to meet in case of separation.
WHERE SHOULD WE PARK?
Please walk if at all possible! The street parking nearby gets very crowded and will be limited to one side of the street, and it’s important not to block in neighbors' driveways. If you need to drive, we recommend parking several blocks away and walking over.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The event is free!
WILL THERE BE CANDY OR OTHER FOOD?
In the past, they have given out munchkins and cider donuts once you've completed the walk!
WHO ORGANIZES SPOOKY WALK?
It is a community-led event organized by your neighbors volunteering their time with help from many local community groups such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Lynn and Jen's Dance Studio, Arlington Soccer Club, Arlington Children’s Center, and volunteers from Arlington High School.
