Description

On April 19, 1775, the British Regulars retreating from Lexington and Concord encountered Minutemen from Menotomy (now Arlington) and 13 surrounding towns. The Battle of Menotomy was a running battle from the Foot of the Rocks in Arlington Heights, eastward toward Boston and the Jason Russell House was the site of some of the fiercest fighting of that day.

In the largest-ever reenactment, Arlington will commemorate this battle on Sunday, April 14th at 2:00 p.m. Watch it unfold on Massachusetts Avenue from Grove Street through Arlington Center to Medford Street. Dressed in period correct uniform and firing muskets (powder only, but it will be heard across town), reenactors will recreate a fateful event that was pivotal to the start of the American Revolution.

Reenactors are asking spectators to view the event from the north side of Mass. Ave. (Arlington High School side). Event organizers and Arlington Police will be onsite to direct spectators on event day and ask spectators to follow posted signage to ensure a successful reenactment experience.

Road closures and parking restrictions along the event route will take place on Mass. Ave. between Mount Vernon Street and Franklin Street, excluding access by adjacent streets, starting at 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Please observe postage signage.
