February Vacation on a Budget: A Guide on Things to do with the Kids!

By Jenna Amyot February 13, 2025

I know I'm not alone in feeling like February vacation snuck up on us - it always does. Both of my kids have started using the words "bored" and "boring," and if yours torture you in the same way, I've got you covered with things to do this weekend and over February Vacation!

This Weekend:

  • Petting Zoo at Shriner's Auditorium
    • Know before you go! Last year when I went with my kids, the # of tickets per ride was not clearly posted anywhere and we ended up buying way too many, but turns out... all of that info was on the website, which I link to in the above calendar listing.
  • NFL's Fan Village in Boston
    • The NFL is hosting a ton of events at City Hall Plaza this weekend, including autograph signings with some of your favorite Bruins players. This will get crowded but if our local hockey heroes hold a special place in your heart, then this is for you.
  • Valentine's Day Sweetheart Dance
    • Arlington's Boys & Girls Club has the sweetest dance for parents/caregivers and their kids at a very reasonable $25/family. If your kids are in the Valentien's Day spirit like mine are, then they might be into this event with dancing, crafting and pizza.

Next Week To-Do's:

  • Winterfest in Harvard Square
    • If ice bumper boat/cars is all over your Instagram feed, I'm here to tell you it seems like a great way to spend February vacation! However, this is decidedly not a toddler-friendly event because only you must be 48" tall or more to ride one of these "vehicles" at a time.
  • Public Skating at LoConte, O'Brien, Burns Arena and The Burlington Ice Palace
    • I used to love public skating nights as a kid... even if I never learned how to stop on ice skates. Our local rinks have plenty of public skate times posted for next week, but it's always best practice to call before showing up, especially if there's a tournament going on next week.
  • Half Price Wednesdays at Dave & Busters
    • Dave & Busters Half Price Wednesdays are perfect for winter break (or snow days blown way out of proportion!
  • Winter Pass at Launch
    • Macaroni KID partner, Launch, is having an awesome winter special where for $99/child, you can jump everyday, unlimited. You can use it until March 20. So, if it continues to be this cold, you can help your kids burn off their energy there.
  • Museums!
    • I scored 50% off passes to the Aquarium through my local library and chances are, your local library has these too.
  • Dine Out on the Cheap
    • One of my favorite trends to emerge in the last few years is discounted or free meals during school breaks. Evviva is offering half priced kids meals next week (with the purchase of an adult entree). Chateau and Neighborhood Kitchen are offering free kids meals (with the purchase of an adult entree).
