Your Guide to Local Holiday Tree Lightings

By Jenna Amyot November 15, 2024

I have such fond memories of going to holiday tree lighting events as a kid. It was so simple and pure, that I find myself seeking out events in our cities and towns so I can share them with my kids (and you). So, if you're wondering when your town is going to be celebrating the start of its holiday season, I've got you covered. TBH, I may attend more than one of these. :)

Also, these are in alphabetical order but I feel compelled to mention that even though Woburn is at the end of the list, its tree-lighting festivities are first (locally) on the calendar. I did also include the Fanueil Hall one because it's my favorite. Enjoy!

Arlington: Dec. 4

Music, crafts, pictures with the big guy, and more! And, you can shop and support local businesses while at the event.

Boston (not local, but my favorite from childhood!): Nov. 26

Fanueil Hall during the holidays is magical. And this event, albeit always packed, puts me in the holiday spirit.

Burlington: Dec. 3

A tree lighting, music, a visit from Santa, and fireworks. The Burlington Recreation Department knows how to throw a party. :)

Medford: Dec. 4

Last year, the Mayor of Medford dressed up as none other than Elsa to kick off the Winter Extravaganza and the kids loved it! The event includes crafts, raffles, shopping with tons of local vendors, and more.

Wilmington: Dec. 7

From the folks who bring you fun on the Fourth (and more!), this one has so much fun built in, including horse drawn hayrides, ice sculptures, carollers, and lots more.

Winchester: Dec. 7

Winchester's holiday tree lighting is part of a weeklong event that encourages people to shop locally while getting into the holiday spirit. But, it's tree lighting ceremony will include music and a visit from our favorite modern-day snowman, Olaf.

Woburn: Nov. 30

Woburn's Annual Festival on the Common is celebrating its 30th year and this year will be just as impressive as the ones that came before it. From music, a visit from Santa and a reading of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, there's plenty for you and your kiddos to enjoy!
