Playground Spotlight: Stone Family Playground at Ginn Field

Yes, that's the official name! 🙃

I cannot count the number of times I've been to Stone Family Playground at Ginn Field. If you asked me what the name of the park was, I couldn't tell you (until I snapped a photo of the official name). And, based on what I've heard from Winchester locals, they can't either. They call it the playground at Ginn Field (or some variation of that). But, there you have it, this park is called the Stone Family Playground at Ginn Field.

Why do we love this park so much? For starters, it intersects with so many things: railroad tracks, a baseball field, a bike path and a walking path. So, when you go to the playground, you've got options if your little ones grow bored of the park (so sad when that happens!). And, it's a short walk to Winchester Center where you can grab lunch from Black Horse Tavern or a juice or smoothie from Nourish Your Soul (which remains the best way to get my kids to consume vegetables).

But, the playground itself is awesome. There are several swings for babies/toddlers, as well as swings for older kids (including a tire swing, a rite of passage for childhood). There's a good mix of soft/rubbery pavement and woodchips, so if you've got a stroller in tow, you don't have to Strech Armstrong yourself to watch both kids (IYKYK!). And, best of all, it has something for kids of all ages. Our son learned to climb on a small, dinosaur-shaped climber/slide, and my daughter is quickly following in his footsteps. Then, there are more advanced areas, including one with a cargo net, as well as a "tree" to climb, and so much more. It's also one of the few parks that has a sandbox - something I never would've guessed would be a rare find, but here we are! And that sandbox has a digger, and you'll often find that parents leave pails and shovels behind for other kids to enjoy (and we know how much fun kids have playing with other kids' toys). My son will spend forever in the sandbox if we let him (and we often do, because sensory play with sand far, far away from our house is really a win-win).

If you're in need of a new playground, give this one a look. And, I'd give yourself some time to get lunch (or dinner) at Black Horse Tavern because I've literally never had a bad meal or experience at it.
