Memorial Day Happenings This Weekend

By Jenna Amyot May 25, 2023

Who's excited for a long weekend 🙋‍♀️? The weather is going to be gorgeous and there are lots of outdoor things/events to do with your families (more on that in my event calendar), but in honor of Memorial Day, and those who gave their lives while serving our country, I'm sharing the various ways our cities and towns are commemorating the occasion. Some somber, some celebratory, but all of them important.

Also, there are some amazing events on the horizon. Just about every city or town is having Porchfest. I'm doing my best to add to the event calendar, but feel free to submit a great event in your community if you see (or organize) one (particularly in celebration, or recognition, of, Pride Month, Juneteenth, as those are coming up quickly)!

Hope you all have a great weekend with your families!

Woburn: Memorial Day Commemoration, Monday, 8 a.m.

Events will begin on Main St. by Rockland Trust and St. Charles Elementary school, where Mayor Scott Gavin will share remarks, then lead a procession to the common for a ceremony beginning at 9 a.m. Additional ceremonies at the Woburn Hebrew Cemetry and Calvary Cemetry will begin at 10:45 and 11:45 a.m., respectively.

Arlington: Memorial Day Ceremony, Monday, 9 a.m.

This annual event pays tribute to fallen service members and Gold Star families. The ceremony will begin promptly at 9:30 and will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at veteran burial sites.

This annual parade organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will kick off at 9:15 a.m. on Skillings Road, then onto Main St. and beyond. The parade will continue to Edward F. O'Connell Memorial Plaza for civic exercises.

The upcoming Memorial Day Ceremony in Burlington is part of a nearly 160-year tradition that pays tribute to military personnel who lost their lives in service to their country. It starts at 10 a.m. in the Veterans section of Chestnut Hill Cemetery, 52 Bedford Street.
