Three cheers for Girl Power! "Girl Power" was a strong message that resonated throughout The Schubert Theater the night of February 22nd during the performance of American Girl Live. The theater was packed with young girls, their special adult female role models, and their own "American Girl Dolls". Since "My Girl" is now 24 years old, and has tucked away her American Girl Dolls for the next generation, I decided to adopt a couple lovely young ladies. I was lucky enough to experience the show with my dear friend Tiffany, her daughter Kylee, and her daughter's friend Kaylyn.

The lights went dim and it was time for Camp American Girl to begin. While many of the girls had been to this camp in the past, and reunited with their friends from previous years, Tori, "The New Girl" was trying to fit in. It was her bravery to assert herself to make new friends that earned her the first "Girl Power Award". Each character had her own unique strengths and stories, just as the American Girl Dolls have theirs. Each camper would run into a challenge or struggle at one point during the play. At that time an American Girl Doll would come to life and give "her girl" a pep talk. It is this pep talk that allowed each girl to conquer their challenges.

The whole story was so well written and played out by the talented actresses. It was hard to pick out our top 5 moments of the evening, but we managed to narrow it down to just that.

5. Music and Singing- Those young actresses not only have loads of musical talent, but they belted out each and every song from their hearts.

4. The Outdoor Camp Out- The girls all earned their awards which allowed them to go on the prestigious camping trip. Girls had to overcome a thunder storm, their counselor getting hurt, and work together to have fun and be safe in The North Woods. The Starry Night Campground was so pretty!

3. Scene with Camper Leah and American Girl Doll Julie(Kylee's Favorite)- Leah was the only girl left who didn't earn a "Girl Power" medal.  When her doll, Julie came to life, not only did she tell Leah what she needed to hear, but the set was so bright and colorful!

2. Watching Each Girl Earn Their "Girl Power" Award- This was very exciting. We knew that there was a pretty good chance that all of the girls were going to earn their award but watching each story unfold brought excitement and anticipation.

1. Message of the Musical- This musical empowers all girls, from various walks of life, to be strong leaders and to never give up hope on their dreams. Emphasis was put on being brave, stepping out of your comfort zone and staying true to yourself. All of this made the musical important for all girls to see!

I received show tickets for free to facilitate my review. However all opinions expressed are my own.
